UPDATE: Police Charge 8 In Large New London Fight; 2 Suffer Stab Wounds

Police said officers were punched, kicked and spat on as they took suspects into custody.

NEW LONDON, CT — Police charged five people in a large fight that occurred Monday, which resulted in one person suffering a stab wound.

Officers responded to the area of 264 Broad Street to investigate reports of a large fight taking place. Reports indicated at least one participant was armed with a knife.

Police found a group of people arguing and fighting, who at one point stopped fighting but started up again in front of the officers.

Officers reported being punched, kicked and spat on as they took the suspects into custody, however no officers were injured during the incident. Eight individuals were arrested for various crimes during the fight.

While at the police station, officers learned two of the suspects had suffered slash and stab wounds during the incident. One of the two that were injured had a slash to the hand, for which he refused medical treatment, while the other was found to have three stab wounds on his back.

The injured male suspect was transported to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A female suspect was also transported to the hospital for a head laceration.

Allan Vargas, 21, of New London, was identified as the individual with the knife. He was charged with assault in the second degree, carrying a dangerous weapon and breach of peace in the second degree.

Mia Brown, 19, of Norwich, was charged with accessory to assault in the second degree, assault on a police officer, carrying a dangerous weapon, interfering with police and breach of peace in the second degree.

Wanda Marty, 48, of New London, was charged with interfering with police.

The following individuals were charged with Breach of Peace in the Second Degree:

  • Caroline Vargas, 20, of New London
  • Adrian Reyes, 30, of New London
  • Amariz Negron, 20, of New London
  • Shayla Negron, 21, of New London
  • Carlos Velazquez, 38, of New London
