Police Investigating Shooting In New London

NEW LONDON, CT - Police said officers are currently investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday night in which one victim was wounded. Police said the incident appears to be isolated and not a random shooting.

Police said New London Emergency Dispatch received multiple calls reporting shots fired in the area of 62 Jay Street at approximately 11:17 p.m., according to a release. Officers located one victim with a gunshot wound to the leg upon arrival, police said. (To sign up for New London breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Police said the victim was alert and conscious as he was transported to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for treatment and evaluation. The injury did not appear to be life threatening, police said.

Police are currently investigating the situation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the New London Police Department's Detective Division immediately.
