Police Release Information, Restrictions Regarding President Trump's Visit to New London

New London police have released information, restrictions and more in preparation of a visit from President Trump this week.

NEW LONDON, CT - After four years of studying and learning to become the best officers possible, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Class of 2017 will graduate May 17 on Cadet Memorial Field at the USCGA. The graduation is scheduled to commence at 11 a.m.

The Academy's 136th Commencement ceremony will feature President Donald J. Trump as the keynote speaker. (To sign up for New London breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

In consideration of the scheduled event, the following parking restrictions shall be in effect:

No parking on River Ridge Road, Deshon Street, Nameaug Avenue, Oneco Avenue, Farnsworth Street, Winchester Road and Uncas Avenue beginning at 5 a.m. on May 17.

No parking signs will be posted. The parking restrictions will remain in effect until later in the day at the discretion of the police department.

Parking tickets will be issued and vehicles will be towed if necessary. Riverside Park shall be closed to the public beginning at 5 a.m. on May 17 until later in the day at the discretion of the police department as well.

Members of the public will be allowed to assemble at the following locations:

  • McKinley Park located at the corner of Williams Street and Crystal Avenue
  • The grass parcel on Williams Street just past the overpass (Williams Street/Briggs Street)
  • The grass parcel located across the street from the main gate of the USCGA (in front of the fence)

Individuals will not be permitted to congregate past the USCGA main gate.

Items not permissible for safety and security purposes include:

  • No masks/face-covering items of any sort may be worn
  • No signs utilizing sticks and/or posts
  • No backpacks and/or bags
  • No amplified noise device(s) [unless City of New London permit on file for said date/event]
  • No sticks/posts of any sort are permissible for safety and security purposes
