Police Seize Over 200 Grams Of Marijuana After Foot Pursuit In New London

Police said officers seized over 200 grams of marijuana from a New London man after a motor vehicle stop and subsequent foot pursuit.

NEW LONDON, CT - Police said officers seized over 200 grams of marijuana from a New London man after a motor vehicle stop Wednesday. During the stop, the suspect fled from officers on foot after being questioned about the contents of his bag, police said.

The stop occurred in the area of Jefferson Avenue and West Coit Street at approximately 5:34 p.m., police said. The driver attempted to flee after officers inquired about a backpack emitting a strong odor of marijuana, according to a release. Police said Irving Jerome Hudson, 28, grabbed the backpack immediately upon questioning and began to flee. Officers pursued the suspect through different portions of West Coit Street, Belden Street, Bank Street and Montauk Avenue, police said.

During the chase, police said the suspect attempted to elude officers by taking off his shirt and dumping the backpack. Hudson was eventually caught in the area of Montauk Avenue, and both items were located by officers.

Officers seized approximately 256 grams of marijuana as a result of the incident. The suspect was charged with possession of marijuana, tampering with evidence and interfering with police among other charges.
