Road Closures, Detours In Place For Ocean Avenue: New London PD

Police said road closures and detours will be in effect Saturday, June 30, and Monday-Tuesday due to road work on Ocean Avenue.

NEW LONDON, CT — Police said road closures and detours will be in effect Saturday, June 30, and Monday-Tuesday due to Ocean Avenue construction, as high volumes of beach traffic are expected during the holiday weekend.

While the construction on the lower half of Ocean Avenue is in the final stage of preparation and paving, and with the expected high volume of traffic for Ocean Beach, the following road closures and detours will be in effect Saturday, June 30, Monday, July 2, and Tuesday, July 3, in the beach area of the city.

Road Closure: Ocean Ave south of Gardner Ave to Neptune Ave
Dates/Times: Morning through evening.

All beach traffic will be detoured from Ocean Ave at Garner Ave (left) to Lester St (right) to Lower Boulevard (right) to Pequot Ave (right) to Neptune Ave (right) toward Ocean Beach Park. The recommended route to Ocean Beach Park will be from Montauk Ave to Pequot Ave.

Local traffic only will be permitted on Ocean Ave, allowing resident access to the streets which only have access and egress on Ocean Ave within the construction zone.

Due to the road construction project, parking will be prohibited where posted along the construction site.

Beach traffic is required to utilize the surface lots at Ocean Beach Park. Once filled, police command staff will determine if residential parking rules are temporarily suspended on streets adjacent to Ocean Beach Park.

Residential parking without permits, where allowed, will be permitted on the following streets:

  • Neptune
  • Pequot
  • Park
  • Elrin Place
  • Stuart
  • Bentley
  • Elliott
  • Mott

The New London Police Department will be actively enforcing parking regulations for the following violations:

  • no parking posted
  • fire hydrants
  • handicap permit required
  • obstructing driveways
  • obstructing traffic
  • 20 feet of corner
  • cross walks
