Stuck Amtrak Bridge In New London Causes Train Delays

A stuck Amtrak bridge in New London that caused a number of train delays could be the result of the extreme cold weather.

NEW LONDON, CT - The extreme cold weather had been determined to be the cause of a stuck Amtrak bridge in New London that caused a number of train delays, the New London Day reported. The bridge issue resulted in a number of chain reactions for people traveling for the New Year's holiday weekend.

Train officials said the Shaw’s Cove Bridge would not close Thursday night, which caused delays for at least five trains, according to the New London Day. Some of the affected trains had nearly 300 passengers on board.

Service was eventually restored around 11 p.m., adding more than two hours to many passengers' trips and causing backup at stations where people were waiting to pick up travelers, the New London Day reported. Rail staff worked during this time to keep passengers happy, however many expressed frustration on Twitter.
