Many DOD civilian employees are being forced to take a 20% cut in pay for 11 weeks, after not getting a pay raise in over three years. My husband happens to be one of them.
The Eleven Days of Furloughs
On the first day of furloughs, my congress said to me: So glad that it’s you and not me.

On the second day of furloughs, my congress said to me: You can’t afford to eat; and so glad that it’s you and not me.
On the third day of furloughs, my congress said to me: Three years without a raise, you can’t afford to eat; and so glad that it’s you and not me.

On the fourth day of furloughs, my congress said to me: Don’t complain to us, three years without a raise, you can’t afford to eat; and so glad that it’s you and not me.
On the fifth day of furloughs, my congress said to me: TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM; don’t complain to us, three years without a raise, you can’t afford to eat; and so glad that it’s you and not me.
On the sixth day of furloughs, my congress said to me: You can’t clothe your family, TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM; don’t complain to us, three years without a raise, you can’t afford to eat; and so glad that it’s you and not me.
On the seventh day of furloughs, my congress said to me: Your wages we are keeping, you can’t clothe your family, TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM; don’t complain to us, three years without a raise, you can’t afford to eat; and so glad that it’s you and not me.
On the eighth day of furloughs, my congress said to me: Screw the little people, your wages we are keeping, you can’t clothe your family, TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM; don’t complain to us, three years without a raise, you can’t afford to eat; and so glad that it’s you and not me.
On the ninth day of furloughs, my congress said to me: Make sure to pay your taxes, screw the little people, your wages we are keeping, you can’t clothe your family, TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM; don’t complain to us, three years without a raise, you can’t afford to eat; and so glad that it’s you and not me.
On the tenth day of furloughs, my congress said to me: Your plight doesn’t matter, make sure to pay your taxes, screw the little people, your wages we are keeping, you can’t clothe your family, TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM; don’t complain to us, three years without a raise, you can’t afford to eat; and so glad that it’s you and not me.
On the eleventh day of furloughs, my congress said to me: Well wasn’t that fun, your plight doesn’t matter, make sure to pay your taxes, screw the little people, your wages we are keeping, you can’t clothe your family, TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM; don’t complain to us, three years without a raise, you can’t afford to eat; and SO GLAD THAT IT’S YOU AND NOT ME.
