Today: New London Church Raising Funds for N.Y. Church Destroyed in 9/11 Attacks

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church was destroyed on 9/11. Until 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, a New London Church is hosting a gyro fundraiser.

A gyro dinner at Saint Sophia Church ends at 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, and raises funds for St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in New York.

The church was destroyed in 9/11. All that could be salvaged after the terrorist attacks were the icon of St. Dionysios of Zakynthos, an icon of the Zoodochos Pege, a few liturgical items, a book and candles.

Saint Sophia Church is located at 200 Hempstead St., New London. For $10, guests can partake in a gyro, fries and rice pudding. All proceeds go toward the rebuilding fund of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
