website, Facebook page, media and the city’s public address system. When the downtown parking ban is in effect it will include the municipal parking lots, town officials said.
When the downtown parking ban is in place there is no parking on Bank Street, State Street and the surrounding streets until the ban is lifted, town officials said. When the downtown parking ban is in place downtown residents and guests can park for free in the Water Street parking garage, town officials said.
New London Public Works, Fire and Police experience great difficulties with improper parking each year
on the following streets:
- Michael Rd
- Anthony Rd
- Boulder Drive
- Buchanan Rd
- Rogers St
- Connecticut Ave
- Belden St
- Ledyard St
- Mountain Ave
- Cape Ann Court
- Eastern Ave at the top of the hill
Town officials said improper parking results in slower emergency response times and inadequate snow clearing in these areas. The New London Police will be vigilant and will be issuing tickets and towing improperly parked vehicles during each snow event, according to town officials.
The city is requesting that sidewalks be shoveled and cleared in a reasonable time frame after the storm, as this is a significant and consistent issue after storms and greatly impedes necessary pedestrian traffic in the city.
Elderly or disabled residents that require assistance digging out after the storm, can contact the Pedestrian Advisory Committee at 860-333-8750 or email pedestrian.nl@gmail.com
Other storm-related suggestions:
- residents are reminded to stay away from downed wires
- remember to bring pets inside
- all coastal areas should pay close attention to flood warnings
- remember to shovel and clear your sidewalks after the storm

- do not run generators inside homes, garages or structures as it will become a severe carbon monoxide threat
- please check on your elderly relatives and neighbors, review and refer to the Red Cross website which is also available on the City of New London’s website
