Woman Charged With Negligent Homicide In New London Fatal Crash: PD

A woman has been charged in connection with an accident that killed a motorcyclist and left three others injured, according to police.

NEW LONDON, CT — A woman is facing charges after a three-vehicle crash led to the death of a motorcyclist in New London in November, according to police.

Police and firefighters responded to the call Nov. 3 at 4:47 p.m. in the area of Colman Street and Vauxhall Street near the entrance to the New London Shopping Center.

Two sedans and a motorcycle were involved in the accident. There were multiple injuries, and four people were sent to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

The man driving the motorcycle, Curtis Barkdull, 45, of Sturgis, South Dakota, was later declared dead at the hospital.

Members of the Investigative Services Division and Accident Re-construction Team investigated the accident.

Police arrested Stephanie Belval, 35, of Ivoryton, on March 31. She was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, following too closely in a motor vehicle, and speeding.

Her bond was set at $25,000. She was scheduled to be arraigned in New London Superior Court on April 14.
