Driver In Fatal New Milford Crash Remains In Critical Condition

NEW MILFORD, CT — The 17-year-old driver in a crash that killed a New Milford teen remains in critical condition. The driver, who is from Kent, was transferred from Danbury Hospital to Connecticut Children's Hospital in Hartford, The News-Times reported.

The teen was driving a 2006 Infiniti G35 on Route 7 in New Milford with Julio Gomez, 17, who died in the accident.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. Friday near Italia Mia Restaurant. The Infiniti was driving north on Route 7 in the right lane and collided with a Hyundai Tucson trying to turn into the restaurant from the southbound left lane.

The Infiniti then hit a Nissan Rouge driving south on Route 7.

Gomez, the Infiniti's passenger, was transported to Danbury Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The passenger in the Nissan SUV was taken to Danbury Hospital and listed in critical condition but since was transferred to another hospital. The Nissan's driver was hospitalized and reported in stable condition.

Gomez was remembered for his vibrant personality and his talent in athletics. According to his obituary, "Julio was a remarkable young man who had an immense passion for both football and basketball. His dedication and talent in these sports were truly exceptional, and he excelled in every game he played.

"But beyond his athletic abilities, he had a vibrant personality that lit up every room he entered. His infectious laughter and quick wit brought joy to all those around him. He had a natural ability to make people feel comfortable and welcomed, and his outgoing nature allowed him to effortlessly connect with others.

"His love for his mother, brother, and father was immeasurable. He cherished his family deeply and always went above and beyond to show his affection and support. He had a heart full of love and kindness, extending his warmth to anyone who crossed his path. His genuine care for others was evident in the way he treated everyone with respect and compassion."
