New Milford Library Renovation Clears Latest Hurdle
The next step is likely a public referendum.
NEW MILFORD, CT — The Board of Finance voted to appropriate up to $6.5 million for the renovation of the library on Wednesday, the News Times is reporting.
Although a town meeting to vote on the issue is on the schedule for Sept. 26, the library funding is now more likely to be sent for a public referendum.
Two previous library renovation projects, in 2003 and 2008, failed to garner enough support. The price tag o the 2008 plan was $21 million; the total tab for the current new build is estimated to be $8.5 million.

The council has already approved the design of the revamp, which would see the library expand from 15,000 to 22,000 square feet, add more meeting space, and remodel the facade to better fit in with the current downtown architecture. The library will also be made compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
