Music, dance, art, musical science and the art of farming

7th Annual Newtown Arts festival September 14-16, 2018

With the 7th Annual Arts Festival slated for September 14-16 on the grounds of Fairfield Hills, the signature art for the T-shirts and posters will be an interpretation of Virginia Zimmerman’s “Welcome to Newtown” mural painted on the railroad support on Churchill Road. The new art was done by the artist.

New this year is The Art of Science which will include making musical instruments from Google Science, From Fractions to Art and creating pictures through Math.

The Art of Farming, another new tent, will have maple syrup to try, notes on backyard chickens, bee husbandry and information on the Victory Garden.

Coming back are the Dance tent, with free performances, demonstrations of water color by SCAN artists and the chance to paint in acrylics. The Make and take tent returns with knitting, tatting, Bottles of Hope and native crafts from recent refuges.

All workshops are free of charge.

The two day festival will be Saturday and Sunday, September 15-16 from 11 am to 5 pm at Fairfield Hills, corner of Trades Lane and DG Beers Blvd, Newtown, CT and continues Saturday and Sunday (11am-5pm) with performances, workshops, artisans,food trucks and a wine and beer garden.

The Newtown Arts festival will begin with a concert by Lords of 52nd Street, Legends of the Billy Joel Band, on the main stage on Friday, September 14 at 6 pm. VIP seats are $35 and lawn seats are $25, available at http://www.newtownartsfestival.com.

The concert will open with Newtown resident Dylan Cortese, a vocalist, pianist and songwriter and a dynamic performer.

"An Evening of the Arts" will be on the stage Saturday night September 15th at 6 pm.

Beginning with the New England New Music Ensemble the evening will include Westfield Winds, poetry readings, The Town Players, The Planets by the Newtown Center of Classical ballet, The Hat City Flutes. (all times/acts (subject to change)

Tickets to the two day event, available at the door, are $5, with children 5-12, $3 and children under 5, free. Proceeds will support grants and scholarships for local artists and arts organizations, future festivals, and other work of the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission
