A Contemporary Ameruican Artist

“The Art of Gen River” at Municipal Center

“The Art of Glen River” (http://glenriver.com/index.php) will be at the Municipal Center Gallery, Primrose St, Newtown from April 2-May 28. An artist reception is set for Saturday, April 2, 3-5 pm. Poet, artist, composer, singer, musician, River says “My approach is as a Contemporary American Artist interested in the concept of an energy signature of color identified with humanity.”

A resident of Newtown for 12 years, he was born in Washington, DC. The family soon moved to Greece, one of many different postings he experienced while growing up. He showed artistic talent early and remembers that his art helped him settle wherever the family lived. ”Drawings of new places seemed to help orient and establish a sense of permanence,” he added.

His art is in private collections throughout the United States and Europe and he has been part of more than 70 shows since 1958, when he participated in his first exhibit in Greenwich, CT at 14 years old.

His work reflects the enormity of nature interacting with man. He seeks a unity of visions and he works in oil, acrylics and mixed media. His Grand Canyon series, done in 1971, used colors and glazes for a multi medium approach. His Chakra Energy series “Combines the abstract concept of color as identity and the figurative world,” he added.

He combines his language skills with his art creating a dynamic matrix. “I’m grateful to have this involvement,” he notes.
