Bolinsky Nominated Unanimously to Run for CT State Representative

State Rep. Mitch Bolinsky expresses his gratitude to Newtown Republicans for their endorsement to represent the 106th Assembly District.

From the Office of State Representative Mitch Bolinsky:

NEWTOWN, CT – State Rep. Mitch Bolinsky (R-Newtown) received the unanimous endorsement by the assembled delegates as their candidate to represent the 106th Assembly District, which is more than 90 percent of Newtown at the Republican Convention, held at historic Edmond Town Hall.

In his acceptance speech Rep. Bolinsky said, “I’m grateful to you for unanimously nominating me to again run for the honor of serving a third term as Newtown’s voice and Representative in Hartford. I take seriously my responsibility to serve all residents and the needs of our community. From a state perspective, I work to represent the conservative fiscal values and moderate social values common to our community. At the Capitol, I work well with other legislators and leaders, and advocate successfully to create, maintain and recover state resources on our town’s behalf, an accomplishment about which I am very proud. Considering the state’s economic woes, Newtown has done well getting its fair share on my watch.”

“Speaking of the economy, for Newtowners and all Connecticut residents, the 2016 election is about fixing our state’s economic problems and returning to prosperity. We must stabilize and grow state revenues organically, reversing the outward migration of people, employers and jobs, so our state can get a piece of the nation’s modest economic recovery. I’ve been outspoken about putting the state on predictable, sustainable fiscal footing and planning ahead. Twenty-years of fiscal mismanagement, undisciplined spending, borrowing, questionable accounting practices and taxing everything but the kitchen sink at the hands of a Democrat legislature has put us in a deeper hole every year. Enough! A vote for Mitch Bolinsky is a vote to end this destructive cycle and start healing Connecticut by balancing budgets without raising taxes, cutting education and cutting core services to our state’s most vulnerable.”

He concluded, “With my lifelong commitment to caring, responsive, personal constituent service, I am definitely Newtown’s best choice for State Rep in November. I’m also proud to say, as Newtown’s Representative, I enjoy very strong local support across party lines and among unaffiliated voters. I get things done. People know and appreciate that.”

Bolinsky is in his second House of Representatives and serves as the ranking member (Republican leader) of the Aging Committee. He also serves as Newtown’s voice on the Education committee and on the powerful, budget-writing, Appropriations Committee.

In 2015, Rep. Bolinsky strongly opposed the historic 2nd largest tax hike in state history, which narrowly passed the House on a vote of 73-70. This Democrat tax hike, on the heels of 2012’s largest-ever tax increases, led to a decision by GE to depart Connecticut for Massachusetts, in search of a more predictable business tax structure. Bolinsky supported an alternative, balanced budget with major structural changes to budgeting in Connecticut, requiring the state to operate more cost-effectively, efficiently and reducing tax pressure on families, businesses and towns.

Rep Bolinsky has a strong legislative record, all of which can be viewed online.

A small sample of 2016 legislation he proudly supported and co-sponsored includes:

· HB 5469: An Act Concerning Student Data Privacy (Landmark privacy protections).

· HB 5262: An Act Establishing a Firefighters Cancer Relief Program.

· HB 5053: An Act Concerning Opioids & Overdose Reversal (CT’s addiction epidemic).

· SB 166: An Act Expanding Utilization of Patient-Designated Caregivers (Care Act II).
