What the World Will See

Another Budget season is upon us and much of the discussion will be the same; yet, this time it is very different. This time the dialogue, the tone and tenor of discourse in boards rooms, editorials, and blogs will be monitored by millions because, like it or not, the eyes of the world are on us. What will they see and hear?

I believe they will see a community that has rededicated itself to our children. That we, as a community, honor those who have died and those who live by the choices we make. That we, as a community, strive to nurture each child to discover the innate talent or gift held within each young heart. That we, as a community, provide our educators with the tools and time they need- to nurture their professional growth- one that opens minds, opportunities, and infinite possibility to our children.

For it is in our classrooms, that writing is published for the first time and an illustrator is born in an art class.  It is in our classrooms that a squeaking clarinet becomes the Pied Piper calling us to leave behind our woes and follow. It is in our classrooms that future medical breakthroughs are born with a simple science lesson. It is in our classrooms, under the guidance of dedicated professionals- that all things are possible.

So as they eyes of the world watch as we enter our budget season, what will they see? That, my dear friends, depends on us- as a community.
