Update: I-84 Re-Opened in Newtown After Double Truck Crash, One Dead, ID Revealed

I-84 in Newtown is expected to be closed for hours due to a spill from one of the trucks.

Update 2 p.m.:

Police said Warren Leroy Jefferson, 49, of Bath. Pennsylvania, was driving a Penske tractor-trailer and crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer that was stopped in the center lane of I-84 between exits 10 and 11 at 4:21 a.m. Jefferson was pronounced dead at the scene, NBC Connecticut reports.

The other driver, John Krupskas, 65, of Dickerson City, Pennsylvania, was transported to Danbury Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

I-84 Re-Opened After Double Truck Crash, One Dead

After the crash between two tractor-trailers at 4:15 a.m. this morning, I-84 is now re-opened since 10:20 a.m., said Lt. J. Paul Vance, according to the Hartford Courant.

The preliminary investigation indicates that that one truck crashed into the back of another, according to NBC Connecticut, killing one of the drivers.

BREAKING NEWS: Double Truck Crash on I-84 East Closes Road, One Dead

Two tractor-trailers collided on I-84, between exits 10 and 11, at approximately 4:30 a.m. this morning, leaving one person dead (according to NBC Connecticut and state police).

The road is closed and will likely remain closed for ours due to a spill from one or both trucks and removal of the vehicles.

Motorists are advised to detour by taking Exit 8, then travel on Route 6 to re-enter the highway.

The identity of the deceased has not been revealed.
