Woman, 46, Dies After Car Plunges Into Lake Lillinonah

A 46-year-old New Milford woman died after her car plunged off of the state boat ramp into Lake Lillinonah Saturday afternoon. Officials were alerted shortly before noon that a car had gone off the boat launch into the lake.

According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the woman was unconscious when she was removed from the icy waters in Bridgewater after spending more than two hours in the submerged vehicle. She was transported to Danbury Hospital where efforts were made to revive her.

She was pronounced dead at 4 p.m., according to DEEP.

The car and the woman were recovered about 40 yards or 120-feet from the boat launch and in about 40-feet of water by local dive teams. She was the sole passenger in the vehicle.

DEEP and Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police are continuing to investigate the incident. Connecticut State Police and Bridgewater Police were on the scene to provide assistance.

The dive teams who assisted in removing the car and woman from the lake were provided by Brookfield and New Milford Police as well as Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue. A heavy duty tow truck was also employed in the effort.

Authorities have not released the victim’s name pending notification of family members.
