New Canaan PD Arrest Sandy Hook Woman On Shoplifting Charge
The suspect, who is from Sandy Hook, was apprehended two towns away.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 34-year-old Sandy Hook woman was arrested on a charge of sixth-degree larceny on Tuesday after she allegedly shoplifted $440 worth of merchandise from an unnamed New Canaan store, according to New Canaan police. She was subsequently apprehended two towns away by Westport police.
Meghann J. Freeman, of Walnut Tree Hill Road, is accused of shoplifting the items and running out of the Elm Street store in the early afternoon.
"Store employees were able to obtain a license plate of the suspect vehicle as she drove from the scene," wrote New Canaan police in a statement, adding that the department put out a "be on the lookout" alert to area police departments for the vehicle.

"Westport PD located the suspect vehicle shortly after the alert on the Merritt Parkway exit 44 off ramp. Westport PD detained the suspect until New Canaan Police arrived and took custody of [her]."
Freeman was released after posting a $2,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Nov. 27.
