New Top Cop Takes Over in Newtown

Newtown’s new Police Chief James Viadero has laid some of his goals as he assumes control of the department.

Viadero said he wants to strengthen the bond between the community and police force through community policing, according to the News-Times.

Community policing is a philosophy that stresses the community and police department working together to solve issues as partners.

Viadero, a 23-year town resident, said he is already impressed by the bond between the community and department.

He was previously chief of Middlebury Police Department and also teaches a class at Sacred Heart University.
