Computers for the Confused 2 Classes, Starting 9/12/16, $39

The PC has become ubiquitous in business, in school, and at home. If you have had limited exposure to personal computers and software programs, and want to explore the PC’s potential, then this course is for you. We’ll begin with an explanation of the confusing terminology used, and then explore computer basics and how to find your way around the Windows desktop. You will also be introduced to some of the most popular programs used at home, in school, and in business, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. We will also cover some of the basics of using the Internet and communicating with Email. No prior knowledge is required for this important class, but please bring lots of questions!

Belly Dance Fitness 8 Classes Starting 9/13/16, $79

Calling all shapes and sizes! Strengthen your core and sculpt your trunk, arms, and legs while learning the basics of Middle-Eastern belly dance! Basic choreography along with Pop music and traditional Middle Eastern music will have you dancing away the calories. Beautiful hip scarves provided. Wear work-out clothes and bring 2-3 lb. weights.

Hatha Yoga 10 Classes, Starting 9/19/16 $99

Develop a good foundation with these easy to follow poses taught with alignment and correction. Bring yoga mat and towel. Open to all levels.

Cardio Dance 8 Classes, Starting 9/19/16, $89

Get moving and kick your metabolism into high gear-fun-fun-fun and super cardio!!! Wiggle, jiggle and giggle!!! Look fabulous for the holidays. Sweat to the oldies, “ole skool” and to today’s hits. No experience necessary, fun and safe. All levels welcome, modifications are provided, warm-up, flex, stretch, tone, core work and cardio. Athletic support sneakers or cross trainers and gym attire recommended. Bring beach towel or yoga mat.

Chalk Painting 6 Classes, Starting 9/20/16, $99

We will learn how to reuse, repurpose and create beautiful pieces of furniture and accessories for your home from end tables to mirrors! Chalk paint can be used on anything—no sanding or priming. East and fun! Bring your own piece to paint and “distress”. Students will be required to purchase supplies and a list will be provided. All pieces must be taken home at the end of each class. A materials fee of $10 is payable to the instructor the first night of class.

Relieving Your Inner Critic 2 Classes, Starting 9/20/16, $89

That void in your head that judges you—we all have it. You can improve your relationship with it. Participants will learn how to identify and befriend their inner critic. Through guided meditation, individual processing and exercises having a more compassionate view of ourselves and our loved ones is possible.

Integral Qigong and Tai Chi 8 Classes Starting 9/20/16 $99

Qigong, and later Tai Chi, were developed and refined over thousands of years with the exact purpose of mindful evolution of body, mind and spirit. Experience and learn easy to follow Qigong and Tai Chi movements and techniques so you can develop your own practice for health and well-being. Prepare to be relaxed and rejuvenated! Please wear comfortable clothing and bring an exercise/yoga mat.

Italian for Beginners Part I 5 Classes, Starting 9/21/15 $129

Learn one of the world’s most beautiful languages with Lucia, a native of Italy. You will begin to develop an Italian vocabulary, learn pronunciation and simple phrases and sentences. There is a $25 text book fee payable to the instructor the first night of class.

Fall For A Cool-Season Vegetable Garden 1 Class, 9/21/16, $29

Extend the vegetable growing season into fall or all winter long. Learn which cool-season vegetables can be planted now and methods to keep them growing. Fall garden cleanup will also be discussed. Participants receive a vegetable seedling to plant at home. No gardening experience required.

Writing To Prompts For Memoir And Personal Essays 5 Classes, Starting 9/21/16, $79

You want to tell your story. Maybe it’s a story of your family’s history. Or is it your own journey that you are longing to write? Where do you begin? This course will help you sort out those memories. Participants will write in class to a series of prompts designed to trigger meaningful anecdotes.

What Are You Eating? 1 Class 9/21/16 $29

It’s true, you are what you eat. What we eat impacts our health. Do you want to clean up your diet and make healthier food choices? Not sure how to do it? Come learn what you should look for when shopping in the grocery store. We will cover the differences between grass fed and grain fed beef, when to buy organic, genetically modified organisms (GMO’s), artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup and their impact on your health. We will cover other topics including the benefits of fish oil and fats that are heart healthy. You will learn about foods that are good for you and those you want to avoid.

Vop Dance—Latin Rhythms 8 Classes Starting 9/21/16 $89

Like Dancing with the Stars! This class will prepare you to look great on the dance floor alone or with a partner. Get your cardio and a fun way to get in shape, no partner necessary. Learn basic patterns and figures with dance technique. Dances includes: Salsa, Samba, Jive, Cha-Cha, incorporating other dances such as Jazz, Afro-Jazz, Hip-hop, Swing, Mambo, etc. Sneaker or flat dance shoes recommended along with comfortable clothing

Country Western Line Dancing 8 Classes Starting 9/21/16 $89

If you took this series last time and missed a few classes, we will repeat a few dances but will have additional new dances to learn. You do not need to have taken the first session to take this class. We will talk more about Country Dance technique and dance floor etiquette. Great cardio exercise. Once you get moving you will not be able to stop!!! Comfortable clothing and flat dance shoes recommended.

Chess For The Beginner 4 Classes, Starting 9/26/16, $89

Here’s a chance for parents and grandparents to learn how to play Chess, the game of thinking, and join the fun enjoyed by kids everywhere. You will be taught by Newtown’s resident, life-long chess expert and chess teacher, Glenn Budzinski. All of the basics will be covered from piece movement to ending the game through checkmate. Each attendee will receive a regulation chess board and set.
