Newtown Man Charged After Fleeing DUI Checkpoint: Naugatuck PD
The accused faces several charges but DUI is not one of them, according to police.

NAUGATUCK, CT — A Newtown man was arrested after police say he refused to obey a police officer's directive at a DUI checkpoint in the Borough late Friday, police said.
Richard Markham, 47, of Willis Road in Newtown, was stopped at a DUI checkpoint on Salem Bridge around 9 p.m. The accused was advised to pull to the side of the road by the officer and he accelerated away, police said.
The accused was located on a nearby street and taken into custody, police said. Markham was given a date of Sept. 20 to appear at Waterbury Superior Court. He was released on a $1,000.00 surety bond.

His charges include: reckless driving, interfering with an officer, illegally possessing weapon in motor vehicle, and engaging police in pursuit.
