Newtown Man Who Sexually Abused Kids Is Sentenced

Richard Saunders, 73, admitted to sexually abusing children aged 5, 10, 11 and 13 last year.

DANBURY — A Newtown man who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing four children was sentenced Wednesday in Superior Court to six years in prison, the News Times is reporting.

Richard Saunders, 73, admitted to sexually abusing children aged 5, 10, 11 and 13 last year. The 5-year-old told her mother about the incidents in July 2017, and Saunders turned himself into police when a warrant was placed for his arrest.

Saunders had previously pleaded guilty to seven charges including third-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
