Newtown Police Arrest Man, Charge with Car Theft

Police gave chase before the man crashed the car and tried to escape on foot.

NEWTOWN, CT -- Police were dispatched at approximately 4 a.m. Thursday to a residence on Cedar Hill Road to investigate the report of a car being stolen.

A Newtown patrol officer was in the area and spotted the stolen vehicle and became involved in a very short pursuit before the stolen car crashed and the suspect fled the scene.

Newtown police conducted an extensive search of the area but it was not until several hours later that a resident in the area called the police to report a suspicious individual in the area of the crash, that police were able to locate the suspect.

The suspect was identified as Angel Garcia, age 18, from Danbury, police said.

Another car was also stolen from a residence on Greenbriar Lane and was believed to have been stolen by accomplices of Garcia, according to police.

Garcia is being held on bond at the Newtown Police Department.

This investigation is on going and more arrests are expected.
