Newtown Police Log Winter Crashes, Parking Lot Collisions And Criminal Cases
Newtown Police responded to several incidents, including winter-related crashes, parking lot collisions and criminal cases, officials said.
NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown Police documented 19 incidents in late January and early February, including multiple winter-weather crashes, parking lot collisions, property damage, traffic-related criminal cases and disturbances, according to department logs and incident reports.
A large share of the incidents involved motor vehicle crashes during snow and icy conditions. Police responded to several single- and two-vehicle crashes on roads including Boggs Hill Road, Aunt Park Lane, Scudder Road, Philo Curtis Road and South Main Street. In many cases, drivers reported losing control on downhill curves, slush-covered shoulders or snow-lined intersections.
On Feb. 7, police said a southbound vehicle on Aunt Park Lane slid downhill and struck an oncoming vehicle near Hundred Acres Road. No injuries were reported, though one vehicle was towed. A verbal warning was issued for traveling too fast for conditions.

Several crashes occurred on private property. On Feb. 6, police responded to a parking lot collision at 43 South Main Street, where a driver struck an unoccupied parked vehicle while turning. No injuries were reported, and no enforcement action was authorized because the incident occurred on private property.
Another property-damage incident was reported Jan. 25 on Philo Curtis Road, where a town highway plow removing snow became entangled in guide wires and damaged a Frontier Communications utility pole. No injuries were reported, and the utility company responded to the scene. No enforcement action was taken.
In addition to crash reports, police documented multiple criminal cases stemming from traffic stops and calls for service. On Feb. 6, a 23-year-old Waterbury woman turned herself in at police headquarters in connection with a November motor vehicle incident on South Main Street. She was charged with evading responsibility involving property damage and failure to obey a stop sign and was released after posting bond. She is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court later this month.
Police also reported two cases Feb. 9 involving driving under the influence, lane violations and motor vehicle–related assault following a traffic stop on South Main Street, as well as a separate disturbance on Sunset Hill Road that resulted in disorderly conduct and assault charges. Both individuals were released with court dates scheduled.
Across the 19 incidents, police said most crashes resulted in property damage only, with no life-threatening injuries reported. Enforcement decisions varied depending on road conditions, driver statements and whether incidents occurred on public roads or private property..
