Newtown Teen Arrested With Over Half a Pound of Weed: Police

Police pulled the car over for defective lighting, then smelled the stash.

NEWTOWN, CT -- Police are reporting that they arrested two teens with over a half-pound of marijuana.

Newtown police pulled a vehicle with defective lightning over on Thursday, August 9 at 2:30 a.m. on Church Street. The police officer detected a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car.

An investigation led to the arrest of the juvenile passenger, a Newtown resident, who was in possession of over a half pound of marijuana, police said. The youth was charged with illegal possession of marijuana and possession with intent to sell.

The driver was issued an infraction for driving a vehicle with defective equipment and violating passenger restrictions.

The driver and his passenger were both under the age of 18.
