Newtown's Inner Child Yoga to Host "Stretch What Matters" Yoga Teacher Certification Workshop September 24 and 25
Two Day Certification For Parents, Teachers, Therapists and Caregivers Who Want to Teach Yoga

Inner Child Yoga (97 South Main Street. Newtown) is hosting a two day, 20 hour intensive certification course called Stretch What Matters “Foundations” on Saturday September 24 (8:00 AM to 6:00 PM) and Sunday September 25 (8:00 AM to 6:00 PM). This workshop is for yoga instructors as well for parents, teachers, therapists, caregivers, counselors or anyone who wants to teach yoga classes. The focus is on yoga for children and teens with special needs which lays the groundwork for integrating yoga into the care of children and teens with autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, emotional and behavioral disabilities and anxiety. The training and certification can also be used to teach yoga to children without special needs.
Aspiring and experienced yoga instructors can complete “Foundations” September 24 and 25 as a stand-alone course or as the pre-requisite for the Stretch What Matters 200-hour Yoga Alliance teacher training. Foundations was created by Elizabeth Goranson, founder of Stretch What Matters and M.S.Ed., E-RYT-200.

· Exploring the history of yoga, along with the ways that yoga increases physical, social, emotional, and mental well-being
· Reviewing unique needs of people with autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, emotional and behavioral disabilities, learning disabilities and anxiety

· Learning components that make up a complete yoga session and understand how to apply yoga within your already existing routines and schedule
· Understanding how to accommodate different learning styles throughout a yoga session
· Demonstrating yoga poses with the Stretch What Matters Yoga System
· Learning mindfulness and meditation practices, plus yoga activities that build skills and confidence
· Discussing the undeniable role that nutrition plays in healing
· Translating research data and personal performance levels into individualized yoga plans
· Applying your new skills to an abbreviated teaching session with supportive feedback
· Acquiring an overview of the business side of yoga
The only requirement to take this course is that participants have practiced yoga at some point for at least three months. If you are new to yoga, just take a beginner class at a local gym or studio to become familiar with the practice.
The 20 hour certification course at Inner Child Yoga is $695.00 (tuition includes a 15% off Stretch What Matters Yoga System -- a color-coded yoga mat with wrist bands, 50 yoga pose cards, an instructional manual and DVD; the 130-page Foundations Training Manual; and upon course completion, the official Stretch What Matters Foundations Certificate.
