Police issue news releases on underage DUI, assault charges, school bus hitting a rock, deer collisions and other incidents

Black Cherry: Danielle Danka was charged with operating a motor vehicle by a driver who is younger than 21-years-old and with a blood alcohol content level of more than .02 after she was stopped for a motor vehicle violation at about 10 p.m., Tuesday, by 4 Black Cherry, police said. Danka was released on a $1,000 bond and is to appear June 30 in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Berkshire Road: A school bus carrying two 9-year-old children swerved to avoid a rock that was off the roadway but instead hit the rock, went off the roadway and hit a larger rock at about 3 p.m. Monday on Berkshire Road, police said. The driver, Leema Jackson, 35, of 30 Clover Leaf Place, Stratford, was issued a summons for restricted turn. No injuries were reported.

Church Hill Road: A Subaru station wagon, operated by Jana Hammond, 29, of 18 Pine St., collided with a Honda Element, operated by Marinete Conway, 46, of 166 Old Brookfield Road, Danbury on Church Hill Road by Walnut Tree Hill Road at 8 a.m., Monday, police said. Hammond was issued a summons for passing on the right and a verbal warning for failure to carry registration.

Church Hill Road: A Honda Civic, operated by Konstantza Popoua, 34, of 151 Andrew Ave., Apt. 97, Naugatuck, rear-ended a Subaru Impreza, operated by Christopher Chase, 22, of 15 Willowbrook, Chesire, at about 6 p.m., Friday by 51 Church Hill Road, police said. Popoua was issued a written warning for following too closely.

Glover Avenue: Rita Selleck, 23, of 8 Fox Run Lane, was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance requirements and failure to display number plate following a motor vehicle stop by 4 Glover Ave., at about 5:15 p.m., Monday, police said. She was released on a promise to appear June 24 in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Great Quarter Road: A man, described as white, with short light brown hair, large build and appearing about 40-years-old, was observed trying to burglarize a detached garage on Great Quarter Road at about 10:30 p.m., Wednesday, police said. He left after he realized he was being watched, police said. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact police at 203-426-5841.

Hawleyville Road: Story (DUI)

Joan Drive: Jose Pimentel, 38, of 10 Joan Drive, was charged with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct in connection with a domestic incident at about 10:25 p.m., Thursday, police said. He was held on a $10,000 bond and was to appear Friday in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Main Street: Miriam Rhyins, 41, of 54 Main St., was charged with first-degree assault, disorderly conduct and interference with an emergency call in connection with a domestic dispute that occurred about 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, police said. In addition to another person who was taken to Danbury Hospital for injuries suffered, Rhyins was taken to the hospital, held on $10,000 bond and was to be arraigned Thursday, police said.

Mount Pleasant Road: A Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by Amanda Ellis, 34, of 64B Milwaukee Ave., Bethel, hit a deer shortly before 8 a.m., Wednesday by Mount Pleasant and Violette roads, police said. The deer died as a result of the injury, police said.

Mount Pleasant Road: A Honda Accord, operated by Sushil Gupta, 66, of 7 Lincoln Road, crashed into a mailbox to the right of the street at 11 Mount Pleasant Road, damaging the windshield at about 5:20 p.m., Monday, police said. Gupta was issued a written warning for restricted turn. No injuries were reported.

Queen Street: A Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by Carolyn Downing, 82, of 146a Heritage Village, Southbury, went off the right shoulder of Queen Street as it attempted to turn onto Church Hill Road, eventually running over the curb, edge of a downed sign and a sign post, at about 1:10 p.m., Wednesday, police said. Downing was issued a written warning for improper right turn.

Queen Street: A Ford Escape, operated by Kathryn Wallace, 17, of 8 Old Purdy Station struck the rear bumper of a Nissan Quest in the parking lot of 5 Queen St., at about 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, police said. No one was injured and no enforcement action was taken.

Riverside Road: A Pontiac Grand Prix, operated by Rose Lindmark, 85, of 29 Willis Road, collided with a Ford Explorer, operated by Matthew Isles, 61, of 7 Black Cherry Lane, by 14 Riverside Road at about 5 p.m., Friday, police said. Landmark was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way.

South Main Street: A Toyota, driven by Eileen Ridolfi, 45, of North Street, Trumbull, was traveling north on South Main Street by the Sand Hill Plaza when the vehicle drifted into the southbound lanes and crashed into a Lexus, driven by Robert Schmidle, 83, of Echo Valley Road, at about 11:30 a.m., Friday, police said. Ridolfi was issued a citation for restricted turn.

South Main Street: Story (Robbery)

South Main Street: A Volkswagen, operated by Michael Carpino, 17, of Kettletown, Southbury, rear-ended a Chevrolet, operated by Imrych Michalamsky, 57, of Granfield Avenue, Bridgeport, at 4:41 p.m., Wednesday by 151 S. Main St., police said. Carpino was given a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. No injuries were reported.

South Main Street: A Ford F-150, driven by Robert Virgalla, 60, of 10 Flintlock Terrace, collided with a Ford Focus, driven by Gabriel Garcia, 25, of 50 Lovers Lane, Monroe, at about 2:40 p.m., Monday by the corner of South Main Street and Ethan Allen Road, police said. Virgalla was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Swamp Road: Robert Zenko, 49, of 81 Bagurn Hill Road, Monroe, was charged with trespassing on railroad property at about noon Sunday by 42 Swamp Road, police said. He was operating an all-terrain vehicle while two juveniles who accompanied him were riding off-road motorcycles, police said. The two youths received verbal warnings.

Quail Hollow Lane: Someone riding an all-terrain vehicle at about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday caused about $100 worth of damage at 2 Quail Hollow Lane, police said. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact police at 203-426-5841.

Queen Street: A Chrysler Sebring, operated by John Nicherson, 70, of 14 Sweet Meadow Road, hit curbing as it tried to turn into a commercial driveway at 5 Queen Street, causing the airbags to deploy at about 4:40 p.m., Tuesday, police said. A passenger riding in the car received cuts to her face as a result of the airbag deployment, police said. Nicherson was issued a summons for restricted turn.
