Possibility of Closing Elementary School Discussed in Newtown
Declining enrollment in the district has led to the issue.
The possibility of closing an elementary school in Newtown was discussed Tuesday night, Fox CT reports.
According to Fox, Hawley Elementary School is proposed to be closed. A $1 million budget deficit would exist if the school isn’t shut.
Many voiced their concerns saying another school was being closed while the new Sandy Hook Elementary School is being built after a $50 million donation, Fox reports. Parents also said they were concerned about their children’s mental health if they were to attend Sandy Hook Elementary.
