Sandy Hook Shooting Victims' Families Suing Lanza Estate

There is believed to be a more than $1 million insurance policy on the former Lanza home.

Nine families who lost members to the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting have filed lawsuits against the Lanza estate.

The Connecticut Post reports that there is believed to be a more than $1 million insurance policy that Nancy Lanza had on the home.

Adam Lanza, 20, shot mother Nancy Lanza in the home before going on a shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School that left 20 children and six adults dead.

A lawyer for the Lanza estate is attempting to get all lawsuits consolidated. The suit claims that Nancy Lanza failed to properly secure her weapons that were used in the shooting.

The Lanza home at Yogananda Street is scheduled to be demolished after the town acquired the property for free. A local construction company offered to do the demolition for free.

Ten families in a separate case sued Bushmaster, the manufacturer of the AR-15 rifle used in the attack as a defendant along with firearm distributor Camfour Inc. of Massachusetts and River Gun Sales of East Windsor. The AR-15 used in the attack was sold by the East Windsor store.
