1. Newtown Attorney Sentenced To Prison In $3.1M Tax Case (patch.com) — Newtown residents are learning that a 51-year-old local attorney has been sentenced to 10 months in federal prison for failing to file tax returns and pay over $3.1 million in taxes, penalties and interest. He admitted to not filing for multiple years despite earning millions, must pay nearly $2.9 million in restitution, and is scheduled to report to prison in January 2027.
   

2. Positive Result Confirmed For West Nile Virus In Mosquitoes In Newtown (newtownbee.com) — Health officials have confirmed West Nile virus in mosquitoes trapped in Newtown, and are urging residents to step up personal protection and eliminate standing water around their homes. State agencies are closely monitoring mosquito activity, but say this timing is typical, emphasizing repellents, long sleeves, and avoiding dusk and dawn outdoor activity when possible.
   

3. Newtown begins using stop-arm cameras on all 56 school buses (ctpost.com) — Newtown has activated stop-arm cameras on all 56 public school buses, with warnings for violators through October 18 and $250 tickets starting October 19. Police will review footage of drivers who illegally pass stopped buses, and fine revenue will support the safety program and other public safety efforts in town.
   

4. Abbotts Hill Farm & Rescue Goes To Zoning Board Of Appeals (newtownbee.com) — A Newtown animal rescue and therapeutic farm on Abbotts Hill Road is appealing multiple zoning violations tied to lot size, animal housing setbacks, and summer counseling programs. After emotional testimony from supporters and questions about agrotourism rules, the Zoning Board of Appeals delayed a decision until its October 7 meeting to review the updated regulations.
   

5. Thomas J. Eaton (newtownbee.com) — Sandy Hook resident Thomas "Tom" Eaton, a Marine veteran and longtime computer program analyst, has died at home surrounded by family at age 85. Loved for his sharp wit, love of music and puzzles, and deep devotion to his large family, he will be honored at a memorial service and celebration of life at Newtown Congregational Church on a date still to be set.
