Newtown’s Legislative Council voted Wednesday to take ownership of the property at 36 Yogananda St. which is the house where Adam Lanza, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter lived in, according to The Hartford Courant.
The town paid $1 for the house, and officials say they are uncertain what plans they have for Lanza’s house.

According to Zillow.com, the property was sold on Sept. 24 for $1 to the town of Newtown. The property is assessed at $360,000.
Lanza lived in the quiet, picturesque neighborhood with his mother Nancy, who he shot and killed on Dec. 14, 2012, before killing six educators and 20 children at the school.

The house belonged to Nancy Lanza’s son, Ryan Lanza, the sole heir of her estate, who authorized Stamford attorney Samuel Starks to sell the property. The home was purchased in 1998 by Nancy and Peter Lanza. The couple divorced in 2009.
Nicole and Ian Hockley, parents of slain Sandy Hook student Dylan Hockley, lived just down the road from the shooter, at 39 Yogananda Street. The Hockleys moved away from the neighborhood after the tragedy but remained in Newtown. Since the shooting, the Lanza home has been boarded up and blocked off with yellow crime scene tape, the Connecticut Post reported.
Hockley told the Connecticut Post last year that “It’s a beautiful neighborhood in Sandy Hook, and that doesn’t get destroyed by one person’s actions.”
