Utility Pole Down on Huntingtown Road in Newtown: Police

A downed utility pole has closed a portion of the road. Nearly 200 Eversource customers in Newtown are also without power.

NEWTOWN, CT — Huntingtown Road is closed between Meadow Brook Road and Cold Spring Road due to a downed utility pole.

Police announced the closure at 1:25 p.m.

Eversource is also reporting that 181 customers in Newtown are without power. That accounts for 2 percent of the company's customer base.

It is not yet known if the outages are due to the downed utility pole, as eversource crews are responding to numerous outages statewide.

It's always smart to check your refrigerator temperature after any power outage, no matter how long power is out. According to foodsafety.gov, you should check the temperature inside of your refrigerator and freezer and discard any perishable food items that have been above 40 degrees for two hours or more.
