View of the Northern Lights From Newtown
Local photographer Luise Gleason captured photos Tuesday night from Fairfield Hills.

Seeing the Northern Lights as far south as Newtown is a strain on the eyes, but local photographer Luise Susanne Gleason captured the details on her camera Tuesday night.

Gleason is a member of the Flagpole Photographer’s Club. She took the photos from a location at Fairfield Hills.
“It was magical, knowing they were out there, here in Connecticut,” she said.

The Northern Lights also known as the Aurora Borealis aren’t commonly seen as far south at Connecticut, but a severe geomagnetic storm produced them at unusually low latitudes. A large solar flare occurred Monday that caused the lights to be seen in the state.
