2 Killed In Fiery Crash On I-91 In North Haven: Police
The car became engulfed in flames after crashing into a tree, according to police.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Two people were killed in a fiery crash on I-91 in North Haven on Wednesday night, according to police.
The driver of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS was traveling on I-91 North near Exit 12 when the vehicle passed the Exit 12 off ramp and ran off the road to the right, according to Connecticut State Police.
Police said the Hyundai went down the embankment and crashed into a tree and caught on fire. The driver and passenger suffered fatal injuries in the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene by the North Haven Fire Department, according to police.

Fire officials had said on Wednesday night that the vehicle was an electric car. However, in an update on Thursday, officials said it was gas-powered.
"Initial reports were that this vehicle contained a fuel cell and preparations were underway for an extended extinguishment period," officials wrote in a post on Facebook. "Fortunately this vehicle was a gas powered vehicle and not an electric vehicle."

The vehicle was towed from the scene, according to police.
The identities of the driver and passenger aren’t known, and police are asking for information that could help with identifying them.
