Barricaded Man Surrenders After 13-Hour Standoff: North Haven Police

The man surrendered and was taken into custody after a nearly 14-hour standoff with police in which gunfire was exchanged, officials said.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A barricaded man surrendered and was taken into custody Tuesday morning after a nearly 14-hour standoff with police in which gunfire was exchanged, according to North Haven police.

Police responded around 8 p.m. on Aug. 19 to a Cloudland Road home on the report of shots fired.

Arriving officers found spent casings in a driveway and tried to talk with a 50-year-old man who was inside the garage, according to police.

Police said the man was “uncooperative and barricaded himself in the residence.”

“For everyone’s safety, the decision was made to utilize the south central regional SWAT team to mitigate the situation,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “During the course of the evening and overnight hours the occupant fired several rounds outside of his home and at SWAT personnel, some of which returned fire.”

Police said a surrender was negotiated around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday and the man was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported, according to police.

The New Haven State's Attorney’s Office, Office of the Inspector General, and State Police Central District were at the scene assisting, according to police.

“We thank everyone for their patience as we worked to have a safe outcome for all,” police wrote.
