2 Stores Close, 1 New Business Opens At SoNo Collection Mall In Norwalk

NORWALK, CT — Two notable retailers recently closed at the SoNo Collection in Norwalk and one new store recently opened at the mall.

The Body Shop, a bath and body products and cosmetics chain on the mall's first floor, was closed as of Thursday.

A sign from The Body Shop team posted on the store's window informed customers "unfortunately our store is now closed. Thank you for your support, it has meant a lot."

Lindsay Kahn, a spokesperson for Brookfield Properties, the mall's operator, confirmed Thursday the store was closed and noted the decision was part of the chain's recent move to shut down all of its U.S. operations.

According to CNN, the chain also plans to close down dozens of its Canadian store locations as it files for bankruptcy.

Kahn also confirmed a Michaels Jewelers store on the mall's second floor was closed.

"Michaels Jewelers was a great operator," Kahn said in an email to Patch, "and we look forward to announcing a new brand to fill the space soon."

The mall also welcomed a new business to its roster of stores as Charlotte Russe opened on Feb. 16.

"They are a great addition to our shopping center," Kahn said.

The clothing, footwear and accessory retail chain is located on the mall's second floor near the now-shuttered Michaels Jewelers.

Charlotte Russe announced the opening of the new SoNo Collection store on Instagram and encouraged Connecticut customers to browse their selection "for spring break, music festies or events with your besties."

Requests for comment from all three stores were not immediately returned Thursday.

In December, Häagen-Dazs announced the opening of a new scoop shop on the mall's top floor. A Starbucks coffee shop also opened at the mall in September.

Greater Norwalk Chamber President Brian Griffin said in December the chamber was pleased to see a number of great recent additions to the mall.

"They have been doing an excellent job of continuing to bring in exciting and interesting businesses and experiences into the venue," Griffin said in an email, "and we look forward to the next."
