Arrest Made In Norwalk Overdose Case: Police

Breaking: The arrest was in connection with one of seven overdoses in the city on July 22, two of which were fatal.

NORWALK, CT — A 43-year-old Waterbury man was arrested on a warrant today, Aug. 11, in connection with allegedly selling drugs that led to one of seven overdoses in Norwalk on July 22. The victim was hospitalized following the overdose, but two of the seven were fatal.

Derrick Wiggins was quickly determined to be a suspect in the non-fatal overdose which occurred at the Garden Park Motel on Westport Avenue.

"Detectives worked with the [Norwalk Police] Special Services Division, who subsequently arrested Wiggins on narcotics charges July 24, 2017," wrote Norwalk police in a statement. "Based on Detective Dan Serio’s investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Derrick Wiggins charging him for his involvement with the overdose. Detectives arrested Wiggins at [Norwalk Superior] court on August 11, 2017."

Wiggins was charged with sale of narcotics and second-degree assault. He was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear back in court at a later date.
