New Details Released In Norwalk Hospital ER Explosion: Update

The explosion occurred Sunday night, and resulted in the temporary closure of Maple Street.

NORWALK, CT — An explosion in the Emergency Room at Norwalk Hospital Sunday night was caused by an oxygen cylinder/regulator that blew up on a transport gurney, according to Norwalk Deputy Chief Edward Prescott.

One person suffered minor injuries in the explosion, which occurred at about 7:30 p.m.

"The gurney was transporting a patient into the ER and had two attendants," Prescott said. "Firefighters found a moderate dust condition from a discharg of a dry-chemical extinguisher, but no smoke or fire. Burn marks on the wall and ceiling were the result of the explosion.
