GoFundMe Launched To Help Family Of Coronavirus Victim Mary Roman
Roman, a renowned Senior Olympian and Norwalk City Clerk, died as a result of the virus in March.
NORWALK, CT — A GoFundMe page has been established to help the family of Mary Roman, the 83-year-old former Norwalk City Clerk and Senior Olympian who passed away of complications from the new coronavirus (COVID-19) in March.
"Mary Roman was a jubilant, lovely and dedicated member of the Norwalk, CT community," wrote the page's organizer Rica Yaffa. "She deeply touched those she worked with, including at the City of Norwalk, at the Norwalk Senior Center, St Paul's on the Green, and everyone else she came into contact with."
As of Wednesday, the page has generated $1,300 toward a goal of $5,000. Funeral services were held for Roman, but only a small number of people were permitted to attend due to precautions from the virus. The proceeds from the GoFundMe page will help her family with those expenses. (Don't miss local and statewide news about coronavirus developments and precautions. "Mary lived with her son, Michael," the page continues. "Given the extraordinary situation Michael and his family and the rest of the community is experiencing, arranging funeral expenses is quite challenging, and is adding burden to bereavement. With the restrictions and precautions that need to be taken as we experience this pandemic, there are additional costs above and beyond what would have been arranged under normal circumstances.
"Please consider helping Mary's family afford funeral arrangements and services in honor of this amazing woman."
