Norwalk Coronavirus Update: City Has More Than 1,800 Cases
The total number of Norwalk residents who have died from coronavirus stood at 106 as of Monday.
NORWALK, CT — Three more coronavirus-related deaths were reported in Norwalk as of Monday, bringing the total to 106, according to Mayor Harry Rilling. The number of confirmed cases increased by 12 to 1,832, which presents about 2.2 percent of the city's total population.
In Fairfield County, the number of deaths reached 1,034 as of Monday; the total number of confirmed cases in the county was 13,312, state health officials said.
"It pains me to share that three more of our residents have died from coronavirus," Rilling said. "I offer my heartfelt condolences to their family and loved ones. I hope and pray things are getting better, but today’s news is a reminder of the devastating impact COVID-19 is having on our community."

Statewide, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases increased by 211 to 33,765 and the number of deaths rose by 41 to 3,008, state health officials said on Monday. Additionally, the number of new hospitalizations in the state declined by 30 to 1,212, and as of Monday 132,508 people in Connecticut have been tested.

"The case numbers are trending in the right direction and hospitalizations continue to decline, but we are by no means ready to resume full operations," Rilling said. "We continue to provide essential services to residents, and we will slowly and strategically ease restrictions. I look forward to sharing those details later in the week."

- The City of Norwalk released a survey to understand the preparedness, capability, and capacity of restaurants to follow state and local health guidelines in relation to COVID-19 and what they may need to facilitate re-opening as restrictions are lifted. - The Norwalk Public Library invites the public to come together virtually for Memorial Day Reflections: Remembering Our Veterans, on Tuesday, May 19, from 3 - 5 p.m. on Zoom. Veterans, service members and families are invited to share poems, prose, letters, and lyrics, honoring local heroes. This program will be recorded and broadcast on Memorial Day weekend, on Facebook Live, YouTube, and the Norwalk Public Library website. To participate, please contact cbradley@norwalkpl.org.
- The U.S. Census Bureau is monitoring coronavirus closely. City officials ask those living Norwalk to complete the Census online, by phone, or by mail. To date, the national response rate is about 58.6 percent, and in Connecticut, 62.1 percent. In Norwalk, the response rate is at 60.9 percent. View results as they come in at 2020census.gov.
