America’s 250th Birthday Walktober Celebration with the Calkins Family Association
Saturday Sept. 26, 2026. 10:00 Guided history tour up West Town St. Meet at Ace Hardware, 146 West Town St. Stopping at various homesteads where our ancestors once lived, we’ll end at the Hugh Calkins History Center about noon for lunch. Afterward there is the dedication of new signage and a park bench, and the planting of an Elm Tree in honor of our patriot ancestors. Rounding out the afternoon will be brief presentations on a variety of Revolutionary War Patriots. FREE! Join performer and lecturer Michael Langlois for an engaging exploration of America’s founding through two groundbreaking Broadway musicals: 1776 and Hamilton. In From Liberty to Legacy, Langlois examines how each musical presents a distinct vision of a nation at a crossroads, shaped not only by the Revolutionary era, but also by the times in which the shows themselves were created (1969 and 2015).
Through discussion and video clips from both productions, this lively lecture explores how changing cultural values, political tensions, and ideas about identity influence the way Americans tell their national origin story. Comparing the perspectives, themes, and historical interpretations found in 1776 and Hamilton, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how history is continually reimagined for new generations. Opportunities for reflection and conversation will be included throughout the program.

(Kunstraum) Dada Post was an artist-run organization, founded in January 2008, by Howard McCalebb in Berlin, Germany. In 2022 Mr. McCalebb moved to Norwich, Connecticut, and establish the art gallery Dada Post USA. Mr. McCalebb is a sculptor and active figure on the international art scene. Dada Post USA is an autonomous space for the production, display and discussion of current art. Foremost, we contemplate artistic expression from the standpoint of pure inspiration emanating from the source – the artist. We are keenly interested in the effects of Globalization on art practice, and the notion of a hybridized Post Modern art practice. As a contemporary art space, Dada Post USA is primarily concerned with artwork that is the most current, reflecting the actual meaning of the term: Contemporary Art. We offer a program of exhibitions and events, featuring videos, poetry/literary readings, music and other live performances, during and between art exhibitions. The original inspiration for both (Kunstraum) Dada Post and Dada Post USA was the Cabaret Voltaire in Zürich, Switzerland and Andy Warhol’s Factory in New York City – which were open venues for impromptu gatherings, events, and artistic experimentation.
