DUI Man Drove Wrong Way in Fatal I-95 Accident Killing Norwich Man, 24: State Police

The accident occurred in April 2016 and the victim was a 24-year-old man.

MILFORD, CT — Nearly one year after a fatal wrong way accident occurred on Interstate 95 in Milford an arrest has been announced, State Police said.

Shivam Patel, 23, of Green Garden Court in East Haven, turned himself in this week to State Police on several charges including DUI for the 2:17 a.m. April 16, 2016 fatal accident.

According to State Police, Terrell Wilson, 24, a former alderman in Norwich, was driving on I-95 northbound south of Exit 36 in the left lane when Patel was traveling in the same area but was driving the wrong way, and Patel's vehicle crashed into Wilson's head-on causing serious injuries to both men at the time.

Wilson would die days later as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident. Wilson attended Norwich public schools and served as a member of the Norwich NAACP, The Day reports. He was an alderman from 2013-2015.

Patel turned himself in at Troop G on an outstanding warrant for second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, reckless driving, and driving the wrong way on the highway. He was given a $50,000 bond.
