Former Norwich Church Treasurer Charged with Embezzlement
He is suspected of spending the money on things like food and golf outings.

NORWICH, CT -- A former Norwich church treasurer was charged this week with stealing money from the church, the Norwich Bulletin reported.
Norwich Police were contacted on June 20 after Grace Episcopal Church officials said the state diocese had not received any annual reports, insurance or pledges payments for the year, according to the Norwich Bulletin. Andrew Rushford, 62, was then identified as the sole possessor of the church’s debit card and checkbook.
When confronted, police said Rushford told an unidentified senior warden for the church “yes, I did it, I’m sorry, send me to jail,” the Norwich Bulletin reported. He is estimated to allegedly have stolen more than $43,000 since 2013, spending it on things like food, alcohol and golf outings.
