Haitian Man Sentenced For Fraudulent Crash Scheme

The man, who last resided in Norwich was involved in as many as 50 fraudulent crashes, according to the U.S. Attorney office.

NORWICH, CT — A Haitian National who last resided in Norwich was sentenced to four years in prison for his role in participating in as many as 50 staged crashes.

Mackenzy Noze, 33, conspired to stage numerous car crashes in eastern Connecticut in order to defraud auto insurance companies, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office. Many crashes took place on remote roads and involved a single vehicle. Those involved then collected payouts on fraudulent claims and typically ranged from between $10,000 to $30,000 per incident.

Noze was found guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, five counts of wire fraud and three counts of mail fraud. He was ordered to pay restitution for more than $207,000.

He will also face immigration proceedings after he serves his sentence. He is a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.
