NORWICH, CT – Firefighters said they put out a fire on the second floor of an abandoned Franklin Street mill on Sunday.

Smoke was reported to be coming out of the building close to 2 p.m. After firefighters searched the building, they were able to extinguish it before it spread.

Police and the Norwich Fire Marshal's office are investigating the fire. The Norwich Fire Department has ran drills in the past to prepare for fires in the abandoned mills, and were able to use that knowledge to their advantage when fighting the fire.
