Norwich Firefighters Put Out Large Fire at North Main Street Commercial Building

Despite the amount of damage to the area, a large portion of the building was spared of damage.

NORWICH, CT – Firefighters responded to a large commercial building fire early Monday evening on North Main Street.

A large number of firefighters were dispatched to Kleemann Service Center at 401 North Main Street close to 5 p.m. for a reported structure fire. Responders noted heavy smoke and fire conditions coming from the building, according to a release.

Crews utilized master streams and large handlines to knock down a large amount of fire initially. A portion of the roof had also collapsed, and an excavator was used to access the burning materials underneath the debris.

Despite the amount of damage to the service area, a large portion of the building including the showroom was spared much damage. The Taftville Fire Co.#2, East Great Plain Fire Company, Mohegan Tribal Fire Department FAST and Laurel Hill Departments were all on scene, as well as Norwich Police and American Ambulance Service, Inc.
