Norwich Man Faked Being Firefighter In Traffic Stop: CSP

In a subsequent search of the man's home, police reportedly turned up other evidence allegedly pointing to the length of his charade.

NORWICH, CT — A 26-year-old Norwich man was arrested on charges of criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer and other violations after he allegedly pretended he was a firefighter during a traffic stop in Montville, according to Connecticut State Police.

Steven Young, of Bentley Avenue, allegedly used flashing lights and sirens while driving his Volkswagen Jetta Friday morning on Route 12 near Route 2A. State police said Young was driving in an erratic fashion, and he told troopers that he was on his way to a fire and that he was a captain in the Cohanzie Fire Department in Waterford.

"Subsequent investigation revealed there was no active fire and the Accused has no affiliation to the Cohanzie Fire Department," wrote state police in a release.

Young was additionally charged with illegal use of flashing lights, operating a vehicle while under suspension and passing in a no-passing zone. He was held in lieu of $10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on June 22.
