Norwich Council Approves Affordable Housing Tax Abatement, December Property Auction (patch.com) — Norwich residents will see new incentives for rehabilitating low- and moderate-income housing after the City Council approved a tax abatement program and confirmed Ordinance 1890. Councilors also set a Dec. 4 auction for more than two dozen city-owned Norwich properties and transferred nearly 39 acres of local open space to Avalonia Land Conservancy, while hearing mixed public feedback on housing and land use.

Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce to relocate headquarters (norwichbulletin.com) — Norwich's business community will soon see the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce move its headquarters from 187 Main Street to The Crossings at 345, the former YMCA redevelopment site. Leaders say the new 345 Main Street location will improve visibility, access, and parking for members from Norwich and surrounding towns, with more details on the build-out and capital campaign coming in the months ahead.
   

3. Ruling looms as Norwich, volunteers clash over fire command plan (norwichbulletin.com) — Norwich residents are awaiting a court ruling on whether the city legally created a Unified Command Structure that reshapes control over local fire services and equipment. City officials argue the charter gives them broad authority, while several volunteer departments say the city manager's order stripped their autonomy and ignored voters' earlier rejection of an automatic aid ordinance, leaving a judge to decide within 120 days.
   

4. New Thames River cruise connects to Norwich festival (norwichbulletin.com) — Norwich residents can look forward to the Harbor Glow festival on Sept. 27, now paired with a narrated Thames River cruise from New London that docks at American Wharf. The free waterfront event will feature illuminated hot-air balloons, entertainment, food trucks, and special discounts at participating Norwich businesses for cruise passengers, all aimed at showcasing the city and boosting local commerce.
