📰 News we're reading

• Chemicals Bring DEEP To Oxford Fire (patch.com) — Oxford firefighters quickly contained a machine fire inside a Willenbrock Road manufacturing facility after heavy smoke was spotted from a plating room with chemical washing tanks. Crews used foam to fully extinguish the blaze, limiting damage to moderate levels, while state environmental officials checked chemical conditions and later cleared the building. Mutual aid from nearby departments and Oxford EMS helped ensure the structure was saved and safely returned to its owner.

• Developer revives Milford affordable housing plan near former Subway HQ (ctpost.com) — A long-stalled Milford affordable housing proposal is back, with Garden Homes now seeking to build 36 duplexes and four houses instead of a large apartment complex, modeled partly on its Oxford Commons development on Hurley Road in Oxford. The project, near the former Subway headquarters, is under wetlands review and could soon face another Planning and Zoning Board decision that may influence similar designs statewide.

• Baseball Recap: New Milford Extends Winning Streak to Two (maxpreps.com) — New Milford’s baseball team recently played a road game in Oxford as part of a playoff run that now includes a 6-3 win over East Lyme. Strong performances from pitcher Tyler Bollaro and slugger Owen Staller powered the Green Wave, who improved to 13-10 while ending East Lyme’s long winning streak.
